* museum of art, macau * (26/01/2012)

some resolutions stick easier than others, so while I'm still struggling to finish 'love in the time of cholera' by marquez, I have been to my third exhibition so far this month. I like to visit macau in order to get away from shenzhen once in a while (we have our own hidden-gem hotel far from the madding crowds at the giant casinos - ask nicely and I will share this one with you) to drink strong black coffee, eat egg tarts, enjoy the portugese heritage and the ever changing exhibitions on display at the MAM.

this time it felt like we were travelling back in time for we were visiting an exhibition that made the bygone times of old macau come back to life! it was just wonderful and I truely wish that I could have walked these vanished cobbled streets before the city turned into the architectural mess it is today.

* chinese poetry * (15/01/2012)

I stuck to my resolution #3 and thus visited the art & design gallery at OCT yesterday. unfortunately I cannot read chinese characters, but still the layout and typography of the displayed books and presented poems were very nice. and so was the gallery itself... definately worth a visit!

* packaging illustration * (16/01/2012)

I really like the pretty illustrations on this clipper white tea box... I admit that's one of the reasons why I bought it! at least with me, pretty illustrations work....

* my new year resolutions * (03/01/2012)

* letting go: (with no hard feelings!) some friendships that once were tight but have lost their intensity. and selling some of my older paintings (though maybe not my most favorite ones. maybe next year...)

* listening! (isn't that kind of everybody's problem?)

* visiting an artistic venue at least once a month. and finishing one book (like I did before the kids)

way to go...

* graphic design in china * (12/2011)

I went to see the exhibition on graphic design in china ('GDC 11') at the guan shanyue art museum in futian, shenzhen and I must admit that china can do more than just being a copycat...

their typographic skills are very impressive and highly developped, due to many centuries of elaborate writing and painting of chinese characters I guess.

* déjà-vu * (11/2011)

I fell in love with this gorgeous bike the very moment I saw it... doesn't it look familiar to you?

* lost & not found... * (10/2011)

I have been taught a lesson recently: after an exhibition I failed to pick up my exhibits on time and the organizers didn't take any responsiblity for them any longer. my artwork found its way into the trashcan of the venue, and though some of it could be retrieved, many pieces are lost for good.

so dear fellow artists and creative minds: always set up a contract with any venue that plans to exhibit or lend some of your work! (about who's responsible for it and until when) they can otherwise not be held responsible for anything that happens to your work, may it be damage or loss, and can easily shrug off any demand for compensation, leaving you empty-handed.
